WATCH DREW BARRYMORE GUEST STAR IN SZA’S NEW MUSIC VIDEO
The rising musician got her idol to appear in her new video.
SZA’s “Drew Barrymore” is a luscious and romantic ode inspired by the age-defining '90s movies starring the iconic actress. For its video, finally released today, the rising R&B star managed to snag the namesake for a quick but poignant cameo.
In the new clip, directed by Dave Meyers, SZA and her crew roam around a surrealist New York, from waking up on the floors of a trashed apartment to posing and laughing atop a snow-covered rooftop. It’s both celebratory and self-reflective, much like the song itself. Barrymore’s smiley cameo is almost a reassuring message, as it comes when SZA sit on the top of a staircase by herself.
Barrymore’s appearance in the video comes as no surprise considering her history with SZA. The actress posted a video on Instagram of her watching the musician perform “Drew Barrymore” on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, kissing her phone in approval. SZA later reposted the video and thanked Barrymore for her "endless inspiration.” Watch them join together for a special moment in the video below.
